1984年美國群星響應聯合國國際糧食年為非洲災民義演的一首歌，中文名是“天下一家”，由邁克爾·傑克遜和萊昂內爾·里奇合作完成. 　　

1984年，英國歌手菲爾柯林斯（ Phil Collins）看到新聞中非洲依索匹亞等地區的人民，長期處於飢荒與營養不良而死亡，遂在聖誕節之前提出構想，由鮑伯蓋朵夫（Bob Geldof）擔任召集人，由數十位當紅藝人以「Band Aid」為名共同灌錄單曲義賣，將義賣所得援助非洲饑民，單曲「他們知道現在是聖誕節嗎？」（Do they know it's Christmas ?）於焉誕生。這張單曲推出後，立即在全世界引起迴響，光是英美兩地就賣出約三百廿萬張。　　

 英國歌壇的此項義舉，美國歌唱界自然不落人後，由黑人歌手哈利貝拉方提（Harry Belafonte）提出建議，之後獲得眾大牌歌手的鼎力支持，由昆西瓊斯（Quincy Jones）擔任製作人，在1985年2月28日，45位當紅歌星雲集洛杉磯的錄音室，灌錄了「四海一家」（We are the world）這首義賣單曲。單曲義賣義所得6500萬美元全部捐助非洲饑民。

 《四海一家》這首歌是由萊納里奇和邁克爾杰克遜（Michael jackon）合寫，兩人費了四天的時間寫曲，萊納先完成一部分，邁克爾杰克遜看到後靈感大發，一夜之間就把全曲寫好。之後他們又花了兩個半小時作詞，為了普遍推廣此曲，歌詞也力求簡單易學。單曲完成後推出問世，受到的歡迎難以想像，短短數週便賣出八百萬張單曲，更勝英國藝人的「他們知道現在是聖誕節嗎？」。　　

 出場第一個，長得比較偉岸的是lionel richie（萊昂納爾.里奇），如果你沒聽過他的歌，那就相當於在九十年代的中國沒有聽過張信哲的歌。他的專輯《can't slow down》在世界各地總銷量僅次於michael jackon的《thriller》。而顫粟的專輯銷量是6000萬，並不是網上所流傳的1.1億。 （另外補充一個知識，在全世界其實披頭士的銷量才是第一，不要相信吉尼斯的記錄，說實話那個真的沒有說服力。如果真的想查數據的話可以參考riaa的）也許這樣說還有些抽象，我列舉幾首現在還一直傳唱的經典，《endless love》(無止盡的愛)，《easy》,《three times a lady》,《all night long》. 《hello》 《say you say me》. 他從1978—1997年間每年都至少有一個冠軍歌曲。並且它還是創作出冠軍歌曲最多的歌手。它還為kenny rogers 創作了《lady》這首優美的冠軍歌曲

 第二個出場的是stevie wonder（史蒂夫.汪德），這個扎了一堆小辮子，戴著墨鏡的的黑人歌手，在這首歌裡出場了很大的一部分時間。他的聲音想必在後面給各位留下了很深刻的印象。他有另外一首歌，我想這裡應該幾乎所有朋友都聽過了《i just call to say i love you》，中文名字叫“電話訴衷腸”但你可知道，他是個盲人。 —個天生雙目失明的人，13歲就登上美國排行榜榜首，20歲開始為別人製作唱片，27歲之前共獲14項葛萊美獎，成為美國70、80十年代最有影響的流行音樂家之一。第三個出場的是paul simon（保羅西蒙），他是個斯文人，不留鬍鬚，沒有過分誇張的打扮，但卻一生跌宕起伏。翻看他的資料，很有意思的是，自從他唱了這首之後，時運突然好了很多，唱片熱銷，和美麗的Edie Brickell結為連禮。 《畢業生》的好聽至極的主題曲，讓他在八十年代的中國，尤其是大學生團體中受到了很大的歡迎,至今扔為眾多音樂迷所津津樂道。　　

 第四個出場的是kenny rogers（肯尼.洛傑斯），他被稱為鄉村音樂之父，“我們總感覺自己的愛情和別人不一樣， 就連呼吸也某種程度的有些不同，甜蜜的話，總不怕多，總怕不多。 短暫的甜蜜。”，而這段話的後面帖的就是kenny rogers的《lady》，一首蒼涼，似乎有些悲傷的老歌。　　

 第五個出場的是james ingram（詹姆斯殷格朗），最熟悉的是他和Linda Ronstadt(琳達朗絲黛)合唱的"Somewhere Out There"。 《美國鼠譚》裡的一首歌，很好聽。再有就是大家很熟的《American the last virgin》（美國最後一個處女），以及87年的冠軍歌曲《i just can\'t stop loving you》，很渾厚的一個聲音。第六個出場的是Tina Turner(蒂娜·特納) 由Tina唱紅的歌曲《戀愛中的蠢人》、《好事多磨》、《最好對我好些》、《愛會幹什麼》等始終不曾被人們淡忘，她那節奏與布魯斯加搖滾風格和活力四射的舞台表演在樂迷的心中永遠生動如初。　　

 第七個出場的是Billy joel（比利，喬）。也許這裡還有朋友對他不夠熟悉，我數出他的一個好朋友吧，唱《can you feel the love tonight》（獅子王主題曲），《candle in the wind》(風中之燭)的Elton john，他們在流行樂壇的影響力是同級別的，他們鋼琴同樣的超棒，而且將鋼琴的很多元素加入自己的作品之中。不過我更喜歡Billy joel。因為他的歌有一個特點是很多歌手不具備的，歌詞特別豐富飽滿，而且寫得極好，《pianoman》，《we didn\'t start the fire 》,《keep the faith》，《leningard》都有這樣的特點. 　　

 第八個出場的是Michael Jackson 1985年7月13日，名為“拯救生命”的大型搖滾樂演唱會在英國倫敦和美國費城同時舉行。 13曰中午，演唱會先在倫敦威姆布萊體育場開幕． 72000人出席了開幕式。兩小時後，美國費城約翰·肯尼迪體育場的音樂會也宣布開始，共有9萬人觀看了演出。演出一直持續了16個小時，並通過全球通信衛星網絡向140多個國家播出了實況，估計總共吸引了近15億的電視觀眾。全世界100多位著名搖滾樂歌星參加了這次義演，他們之中有鮑博·迪倫、保爾·麥卡特尼、布魯斯·斯普林斯廷、蒂娜·特納、艾爾頓·約翰、邁克·傑克遜…… 這一天，整個世界都洋溢著無私的感情。這場大型搖滾樂演唱會的組織者、愛爾蘭籍歌星鮑勃·格爾多夫無限感慨地說，“這不是一次流行音樂會，也不是一次電視演出，而是對人的拯救。”他的誠心感動了其他的歌星，要知道，想把那些狂放不羈、我行我素的歌星們組織到一起絕不是一件容易的事兒。格爾多夫事後回憶說：“義演前的好幾個晚上，我在床上輾轉反側，不能入睡。極度的擔心和各種古怪的念頭折磨著我，使我痛苦萬分，渾身浸透了冷汗。我們同任何一位歌星都沒有簽訂合同，我們有的只是他們答應來的允諾。”但是，那些被人們普遍認為頹廢、放蕩、荒唐的搖滾歌星們（鮑勃·格爾多夫自己就曾因玩世不恭而引起人們非議）終於都來了，他們緊密地團結起來，共同完成了這一歷史的壯舉。在演唱會上，搖滾歌星們最後齊聲高唱起音樂會的主題歌《我們是世界》，以表示他們共同的心願——我們是世界，我們是世界的孩子，我們是創造光明的人，讓我們伸出救援之手，我們在拯救自己的生命…… 這次大型搖滾樂義演活動獲得了巨大的成功，一共為掙扎在飢荒中的非洲災民募集到5000多萬美元的巨款。搖滾歌星們完成了*政治家喋喋不休的演說和國際會議沒完沒了的討論所根本完成不了的壯舉。
